Diagnosis and Treatment of HIV Infection

It is important to make a diagnosis of HIV infection early so that appropriate treatment and infection control measures can be undertaken. Three different types of tests are available:

 

A. Diagnostic Tests - these tests are used to make a diagnosis of HIV infection
B. Prognostic Tests - these tests are used to monitor the patients' condition and for prognosis
C. Antiviral Susceptibility Tests - these tests are increasingly used for selection of appropriate antiviral drugs for the patient.
